Welcome to our page! We are they first every commissioned Caritas Ambassadors of St. Antony's.
We were commissioned st Salford Cathedral on Monday 14th of October 2019.
Before we were commissioned in the cathedral, we had a training session with Sister Judith who gave us more of an insight into what our role as Caritas Ambassador entails. It was very informative and we got straight to action planning with the help of Mrs McSwiggan.
We understand we have a crucial role in our school, holding our faith and social justice close to our hearts. We are activists for social change and are ambassadors of the Catholic Social Teaching agenda here at St. Antony’s, which has been advocated by Pope Francis as he invites us all to be Missionary Disciples of Christ.
Some of the Caritas Ambassadors and Sister Alice visited the Caritas Mother and Baby unit, here in Blackburn on the last day of Autumn term. We were thrilled to donate a wonderful £80 raised by raffling off luxury hampers at the Key Stage 1 nativity performances. The Manager was so thankful of our efforts and has kindly invited us back to meet more of the babies and young mothers who use the service.
To celebrate God's gift of the harvest we asked for donations of perishable goods that we could donate to our local Food Bank. Through the incredible generosity of our families we were delighted that we could offer over 142kg of tins, the equivalent of 338 meals. Blackburn Food Bank were delighted with us and we have pledged to work with them each term, our next event being in the Spring.
Tin Tom Friday
The Caritas Ambassadors held a day where everyone wore red and brought in a tin of tomatoes. When we last visited the Food Bank, we were told how stocks are always at their lowest in January. They also shared that tinned tomatoes are always so warmly welcomed because they are so versatile in making delicious and nutritional meals. We were able to filled 14 large bags and a great big box for the Food Bank.
