PE and Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Part of our Sports Premium funding has gone towards funding qualified coaches to run a variety of after-school clubs in order to offer our children a chance to hone their talents and skills in a broad range of sports and activities.

Our Circuit Training club sees more than 30 children working to improve their physical fitness.

The children, who attend Dance Club, are working to create a routine. They will perform to the rest of the school to showcase their talent.

Meet our coaches:

Our Year 2 teacher and Dance Coach, Miss Haylie Hadfield has trained in Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Latin to degree level. She has competed in National and Worldwide  Competition over many years. Miss Hadfield has coached and prepared our children from across KS1 and KS2 for inter and intra school competition and dance festivals at venues such as King George's Hall.

Our Year 1 teacher and qualified FA Coach, Mr Adam Douglas, is a former St Antony's pupil, who swam for Great Britain as a youth. Mr Douglas completed his Football apprenticeship at Preston North End and played for the first team under David Moyes before accepting a scholarship to play Soccer in the USA. He still plays and captains AFC Darwen in the North West Counties League at semi-professional level, having recently stepped down as manager; following a successful season.

Sports Coach, Miss Sinead Garvin, has a degree in Sport and is a qualified coach in Football, Netball, Dodgeball and Athletics. She also coaches Darwen Ladies first team and Youth teams.

Our Daily Mile track was painted in 2017 using Sports Premium funding.

9 laps of the track marks 1 mile. All of our children complete the Daily Mile mid-afternoon. On Fridays, teachers time the speed that children complete their mile with the aim that they try to beat their personal best the following week!

Sadly, Shadsworth Swimming Pool closed at the beginning of 2018 - causing great loss to the community and a real impact on the proficiency of swimmers in the local area.

At St Antony's, our Year 3 class now go to the Leisure Centre in Blackburn for their weekly lessons.

Currently, the number of pupils within our Year 6 cohort can:

Swim 25 metres

9/30

(30%)

Use a range of strokes effectively

5/30

(17%)
