Spring 1 Year A - Misty Mountains

Spring 1 - Misty Mountains

Mighty mountains peak above the morning mists, imposing and eternal, rocky outcrops at their feet.
Discover how these giants are formed, as a fold or a block, a dome or plateau.

Follow the water cycle's course from peak to valley and meet the exceptional tribes of the hostile Himalayas.

Then plan a mountain expedition from the BMC that is eco-friendly and safe as can be.

But beware... look out! What's that by that tree? Its footprints are huge! Have we found the ..... YETI!!!

LEARNING ZONE ...

VISITOR - Tuesday 21st January 2020

Today, we had some special visitors come to see us about road safety. We listened carefully to their presentation and then participated in safe crossing of roads! We also looked at whether we were tall enough to wear a belt or sit in a car seat.

Science - Rocks With Rocks as our topic this half term, we have been working as a class to research the different types of rocks. We have use magnifying glasses to look at the rocks surface in detail.

We used chocolate to create the different types of rocks - Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary.

P.E - Gymnastics

We have been using the climbing frames to complete our gymnastic sessions. We worked on using height and shape with different equipment.

Art - Sculptures

Using some images of mountains, we used playdough to sculpt our own mountains!

We have also been doing some weaving!

History - Local History

We worked in a carousel to complete different activities based on history in our local area.

Spanish

We have been working hard to learn and understand family members in Spanish!

Maths - Coordinates

What better way to learn about coordinates than be outside using chalk and bean bags!! We had lots of fun creating large scaled grids and worked in partners to complete mini games using our knowledge of coordinates.

English - Stories

After watching video clips of mountaineers climbing Mount Everest and reading stories about mountaineers meeting unexpected predators on their journeys, we decided to write our very own stories! We wrote a story about climbing Mount Everest and coming across a deadly creature.

Internet Safety Day - Tuesday 11th February 2020

The topic of Internet Safety Day this year was Identification. We discussed the importance of keeping safe online and how sharing information to one person could be passed to millions within minutes. We did an activity visually to show this. We passed our information (string) to one person and then that person passed it to another. Within 4 minutes everyone had heard the information first shared!!
