Summer 1 Year B - Potions

"Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble."

- Macbeth, William Shakespeare

This half-term in Year 4 will be magical with our new topic, Potions! we'll be exploring numerous texts and conducting lots of experiments and creating our very own potions!

"Curiouser and curiouser!" - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll

This half term, one of the main texts that we'll be looking at is Alice in Wonderland. So far, we have been led on a mysterious trail to the woods where we discovered a mysterious bottle labelled drink me...

We needed to decide what Alice should do with this bottle.. so we formed a conscience alley to help her decide!

In Science so far we have looked at states of matter: solids, liquids and gases! We found out that some materials can be all three depending on the temperature! For example, water. when it is ice it is a solid, when it melts it becomes liquid, and when the liquid is heated it boils and becomes steam which is a gas!

We will also be looking at the water cycle alongside geography, and discover the journey a raindrop goes through to become a part of the sea.

Strap in as we travel back through time as we look for the use of potions throughout history!

We have learnt that until 160 years ago, doctors would perform live surgery without using an anaesthetic on the patient! Anaesthetics weren't used for operations and surgery until 1846 when Dr William Morton demonstrated the first use of ether as a surgical anaesthetic!
