Summer 2 Year A - Blue Abyss
Grab your wetsuit! We’re going deep into an underwater world of incredible coral and mysterious sea creatures.
What do real divers get up to below the surface? Create a fishy story about exploring an amazing underwater world. Time to go a little deeper into our seas. Make a model deep-sea submarine that can withstand great pressure and travel to the deepest, darkest places on Earth. Make sure you test it first!
What are those bright lights in the distance? It’s a group of bioluminescent sea creatures! Flippers on? Snorkel ready? Let’s head into the blue abyss...
We have been using Scratch Junior in Computing to make our own under the sea animations. We have chosen suitable characters and programmed them to move using a set of commands. We even added sound effects and voice overs.
We will be looking at Jacques Cousteau soon in our topic.
Perhaps you could find out some information about him. We will be learning about him week commencing 2nd July.
Maybe you could you go to the library and find a book about his life?
Years 3 and 4 are very much looking forward to their visit to the Blue Planet Aquarium on Monday the 9th of July. Please make sure that all consent forms are returned by Friday the 6th of July.
In English we are using 'Dougal's Deep-sea Diary' as a stimulus for our writing. We are working hard on adding description to our writing and have written some super character descriptions and settings for Atlantis city, the mysterious under water world.
We are going to be writing our own adventure stories based under water soon.
In Science we have been working in groups to organise living things. Some of us found it quite tricky, especially when we had to use more categories as the living thing could only go in one group.
