What to expect in Year 3...

Please ensure that reading books are in school each day as the children may be heard reading individually. We encourage 20-30 minutes of reading each day. Books will be changed every Monday if your child's reading record has been signed. In addition to individual reading,  we also have whole class shared reads daily and a more in depth reading lesson once a week to ensure the children are refining their reading skills.

At the start of each half term the children will receive a Topic homework grid with some suggested tasks to complete in their homework books. This has proven to be a great success in recent years and is a fantastic way to share and celebrate the children's learning throughout the curriculum. In addition to the topic grid the children will also be given a list of six spellings to learn in preparation for a spelling test every Monday. We also encourage the children to use their individual log ins to access Times Tables Rockstars. Click on the link below to go straight to the webpage.

At St Antony's we strive to offer a broad and balanced curriculum.

We are currently on Year A of the curriculum cycle.

Our topics for this year are:

Tribal Tales

Gods and Mortals

USA Road Trip

This is an extremely exciting year for many of the children in Year 3 as some of them will be participating in the Sacramental Programme, an opportunity in which they will receive two of the Sacraments: Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Over the year, we will be working together to prepare the children for the receiving of these Sacraments. This will include; attending meetings in school and church, learning in school, learning at home and attending masses at Church. Please note: if you have any other children who have not completed this and wish to, they may also participate in this wonderful journey. More information about the start of the programme to follow.

Year 3 have P.E on a Thursday with support from Blackburn Rovers. Due to the current Covid situation we ask that children come to school in their kits. This consists of: black shorts/jogging pants, black pumps/trainers and a t shirt/hoodie in their house colour.

Children in Year 3 take part in weekly swimming lessons. The focus is on developing their confidence in the water and also their water safety skills. Swimming is usually on a Tuesday afternoon however we are awaiting confirmation from the leisure centre for when lessons can start up due to the current situation.

At St Antony's we recognise the importance of home-school partnerships. We are always so thankful for the support we receive. Please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything we can do to help support your child. Likewise, if there are any concerns please contact a member of the Year 3 Teaching Team.

Class Dojo is adored by the children and staff at St Antony's. Thank you to all the parents who have signed up. We are very close to 100% in Year 3! The class story page is a wonderful tool to share our learning and is the very best way to see your child work in their learning environment. We strive to keep it updated regularly and love to see your likes and comments. Please keep them coming! The messaging service is a great way to keep in contact. I welcome messages throughout the school day but please be aware I may not see them straight away.
