Year A Autumn 1 - Land Ahoy!
Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum! Arrr....me hearties, it's a sailor's life for me! Get your legs on, it's time to sail the salty seas. Navigate, investigate and explore the world-just like Captain Cook. Make a boat, sink a ship and fly a pirate flag! We'll learn to speak like a pirate, write like a poet and enjoy singing a sea shanty or two. How do rescues happen at sea? Find out about brave volunteers and young Miss Darling, rowing her boat across the stormy seas.

We had a pirate day to kick start our topic. We all dressed up as pirates and took part in lots of different activities.
We created our own treasure maps including different human and physical features. We created a key to go with them.
We looked at famous artists impressions of the sea. We talked about the different shades and techniques they used. We experimented with colour mixing to create our own seascapes.
In english we learned about famous pirates from the golden age of piracy - Blackbeard, William Kidd, Black Bart and created wanted posters by writing descriptive sentences.
Did you know there were female pirates? Anne Bonney was a famous pirate and skilled at fighting.
We used collage to create our own pirate ships.
