Year A Summer 1 - Wriggle and Crawl

Grab your coat and magnifying glass - we're going on a minibeast hunt! Sweep up your nets in puddles and ponds and lift up logs to see who is home. Then set up your own minibeast lab and observe their every move. Learn about bees and worms and butterflies too. Can you make a food chain to show who eats who? On your belly, legs at the ready,it's time to wriggle and crawl!

We went on a minibeast hunt to see what we could find in our gardens!

Craft ideas - What can you create?

We designed and built a minibeast hotel from different materials.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Animated Film

In the internationally acclaimed The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a tiny caterpillar eats and eats...and eats his way through the week. Taken from The Very Hungry ...

We watched The Very Hungry Caterpillar story and used it to learn to order and spell the days of the week.

Eric Carle is an American children's author who has written a lot of books about minibeasts. Have you read any? We used his books as a basis for our English work. We used adjectives to describe the characters, sequenced the stories, used drama to get into role and retold them.

In maths we continued our minibeast theme by using ladybirds to help us find doubles of numbers.
