Science

This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.
Genesis 2:4
Science Ambassadors!
Our Science Ambassadors play an important role in our school! They work hard to plan and prepare engaging activities which are delivered during Science week, they participate in whole-school assemblies to showcase experiments and they support the delivery of workshops across all year groups! Our Science Ambassadors show great interest and have a good understanding of Science and what Science is!
INTENT
Our Science curriculum aims to inspire curiosity and a passion for Science through hands-on investigations, developing pupils’ scientific knowledge, skills and understanding. We encourage pupils to question, investigate and explore the world around them, fostering awe and respect for God’s creation and an understanding of our responsibility to care for it locally and globally. Working in partnership with parents, we prepare pupils for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world, equipping them to think critically, embrace future learning and make positive changes for the greater good.
IMPLEMENTATION
Science is taught weekly across all year groups, with planning guided by the National Curriculum, PLAN knowledge matrices and TAPs assessment plans. Lessons are engaging, practical and progressively sequenced to develop scientific knowledge, vocabulary and working scientifically skills.
In Nursery and Reception, children explore the natural world through hands-on activities. In KS1, they develop scientific vocabulary and investigative skills, learning to ask and answer questions. In LKS2, children consolidate prior learning, plan fair tests, conduct experiments and record results. In UKS2, they apply their knowledge, form hypotheses, analyse data and plan increasingly complex investigations.
Teachers use scientific questioning and formative assessment to monitor understanding, address gaps and support mastery. Outdoor learning, workshops and high-quality resources enrich learning and nurture pupils’ curiosity. Science Ambassadors also help develop the subject across school, contributing ideas, supporting pupil voice and leading engaging activities during British Science Week.
IMPACT
Class teachers assess Science formatively using Target Tracker and TAPs plans to support teacher judgements. The Science Lead analyses termly progress data, monitoring groups including gender, SEN and PPG. Learning walks, lesson observations, pupil interviews and book scrutinies evaluate teaching quality and progression across the school.
Staff receive regular CPD, with support for ECTs, peer coaching and network training to develop teaching practice. The Science Lead reports progress and priorities to governors through action plans and an annual report. Governors may also visit lessons, attend events, speak to pupils and review evidence of learning.
