Dan the Skipping Man

In October 2023, we welcomed Dan the Skipping Man to school, a renowned skipping expert with years of experience in teaching children the art of Skipping. Dan used creative methods and engaging activities to make the workshops both enjoyable and accessible for all. Even our most reluctant skippers left their workshops beaming with pride and pleasantly surprised at how successful they had been.

The workshops focused on developing pupils' physical skills but also shared the many benefits skipping has for our mental health and wellbeing. From Nursery to Year 6, all the children had the opportunity to participate in an age-appropriate skipping workshop led by Dan and his colleague. From single jumping to cross over jumping to pirouette jumping to double Dutch skipping, there was so much technique learnt.

The workshops took place throughout the school day and concluded with a skipping showcase at the end of the day, giving our pupils the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they had learnt. The progress made was incredible!

We believe that skipping is not only a fun activity but also an excellent form of exercise that promotes physical wellbeing and self-confidence. It helps children to improve their coordination, agility, balance and overall fitness. Furthermore, skipping is a great way for children to work collaboratively and support one another.

Following the workshops, we now have regular skipping on the playground where the children continue to develop the skills taught and increase their general fitness.
